Holland, Illinois (December 21, 2017)– According to Holland Department of Public Safety, an Augustana College freshman was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday night in Holland.

The accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. Monday, December 18, at the 16th Street and U.S. 31.

Authorities said that Yen Ngo, 18, was struck by a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Joshua Powers, 21, of Holland, south on the highway. Ngo was riding her bicycle westbound on 16th Street when the accident happened.

Witnesses accounted that the 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck had a green light activated when the incident occurred.

According to a local news source, Life-saving efforts were tried at the accident site to save the life of Ngo. Unfortunately, she died as a result of major injuries she sustained in the collision.

No other injuries were reported in the crash.

An investigation into the incident remained underway.
