Raychel Gadson, Tyrone Callender and Christopher Smitherman Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-29 in Platte County

Platte County, Missouri (February 17, 2018) – Three people were hospitalized following a Friday night crash involving three vehicles in Platte County, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The wreck took place at around 8:20 p.m. Friday, February 16, on Interstate 29 southbound just north of Mile Marker 11.

According to troopers, a 2018 MAC driven by David R. Yancey, 63, of Pleasant Hill, was traveling southbound on I-29 when he changed lanes to the right and struck a 2005 Nissan Altima, driven by Tyrone L. Callender, 30, of Clarksville, Tn.

The impact caused the Nissan to spin and crashed into the concrete median.

Shortly after, as Callender was getting out of the vehicle, a southbound 2008 Ford driven by Christopher A. Smitherman, 16, of Kansas City, slammed into the Nissan, throwing Callender onto the ground.

Callender suffered moderate injuries but refused medication at the scene.

Smitherman and a passenger in the MAC, Raychel O. Gadson, 25, of Independence, sustained moderate injuries. Smitherman was taken to Liberty Hospital while Gadson was transported to North Kansas City Hospital.

Troopers said all occupants of the three vehicles were wearing their safety belts.
