Randal McElroy Killed in Head-on Crash on Illinois 16 in Rosamond
Rosamond, Illinois (February 28, 2018) — The 61-year-old Nokomis man killed in a head-on collision Monday night in Christian County has been identified as Randal K. McElroy, according to police.
The fatal wreck took place at around 10:40 p.m. Monday, February 26, on Route 16 between Rosamond and Pana.
According to the police, a 19-year-old Rosamond man was operating a pickup truck west on Illinois 16 when he crossed into the eastbound lane and hit McElroy’s sports utility vehicle head-on.
The 19-year-old told police that he had been using his phone at the time of the crash.
McElroy was declared deceased at the incident scene.
According to the Christian County Coroner’s Office, the victim died of multiple blunt force injuries due to a motor vehicle crash.
Police suspect alcohol to be a factor in the crash; however, an investigation is still ongoing.
