Alton Man Marlon Buford ID’d as Person Killed in 3-Vehicle Accident on Route 255 in Godfrey
Godfrey, Illinois (January 18, 2018) – An Alton man who was killed in a crash caused by a wrong-way driver late Wednesday night in Godfrey has been identified as 30-year-old Marlon Buford, according to Illinois State Police.
The crash took place at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, on Route 255 just south of Humbert Road.
Police said a 22-year-old Godfrey woman was driving in the wrong direction when her vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Buford. A car, driven by 28-year-old Timothy Varble of Jerseyville, then crashed into the back of Buford’s car.
Buford sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Varble was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital with serious injuries.
The wrong-way driver was hospitalized at Barnes-Jewish Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The crash led to a closure on the northbound lanes of Route 255 as investigators examined the scene.
