Male Driver Killed, 2 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on North 2nd Street and Ethel Avenue in Rockford

Rockford, Illinois (December 20, 2017) – A man lost his life and three other people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision Tuesday evening in Rockford, according to the Rockford Police Department.

The fatal crash occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 19 on North Second Street and Ethel Avenue.

Police officers said that a Pontiac was traveling North when it attempted to turn into the Nicholas Conservatory on Ethel and crashed with a white Dodge traveling south. The impact of the collision caused both cars to slam into a southbound mini-van.

A 31-year-old man driving the Pontiac, from Loves Park, died at the scene while a mother and two children in the mini-van were shuttled to a hospital with injuries, but are expected to fully recover.

The driver of the Dodge was uninjured in the incident.

The southbound traffic from Auburn St. to Ethel was closed down for some hours during the investigation.

An investigation to determine the cause of the fatal crash is underway.
