Laverne Schultz injured in Illinois big-rig wreck

On Sunday, September 16, 85-year-old Laverne Schultz of Herscher, Ill, was injured in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Lehigh Road at Illinois 115.

The accident began at approximately 10 AM when a big-rig driven by Gerbretsadik T. Hagdu, 37, of Sioux City, Iowa, failed to yield upon approaching the intersection and pulled into the path of Mr. Schultz truck, forcing Mr. Hagdu to collide with the driver’s side of the truck portion of Mr. Hagdu’s 18-wheeler, sending both vehicles off road.

According to the Illinois State Highway Patrol crash report, Mr. Schultz had to be transported via EMS to nearby Riverside Medical Center, and then later transported for further care to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. The Illinois State Highway Patrol cited Mr. Hagdu for failure to yield at an intersection and then released him. Mr. Hagdu was not hurt in the incident.

Both vehicles suffered significant damage and had to be towed from the scene.

No other drivers or occupants were injured in the accident.
