Johnathon Nelson, James Reed Hospitalized after Vehicle Strikes Tow-Truck on I-70 in O’Fallon

St. Charles County, Missouri (February 22, 2018) – A crash involving a tow-truck and another vehicle left two people hospitalized early Wednesday morning in St. Charles County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at about 5:35 a.m. Wednesday, February 21, on Interstate 70 at Highway K in O’Fallon.

Troopers said a tow-truck had been called to the scene of a crash and Johnathon L. Nelson, 30, of St. Charles was outside the 2006 Peterbilt 337 truck assisting in removing a vehicle involved in an earlier crash when a westbound 2005 GMC Envoy failed to stop and crashed into the tow-truck.

The GMC then struck Nelson, throwing him onto the tow-truck.

Nelson suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. The driver of the GMC, James G. Reed, 55, of St. Charles, was treated for minor injuries at SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital Lake St. Louis.

Troopers said weather might have been a factor in the crash.
