Washington County, Illinois (February 28, 2018) –Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon as 58-year-old John Frye of Freeburg.

The fatal incident happened on Tuesday, February 27, on Illinois Route 15 in front of Three Way Horse Farms about six miles west of Nashville.

According to a Washington County Coroner, Frye was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Impala eastbound on Route 15 when he, for unknown reasons, crossed over the westbound lane and struck a 2017 Ford pickup driven by 36-year-old Micah Rincker of Ashley head-on.

Rincker reportedly tried to veer into the grass to avoid the crash; unfortunately, he was prohibited by a steep embankment.

Frye was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash while Rincker was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, as per the report.

An investigation into the crash is still underway.
