Herbert, Cynthia, Humphrey involved in tragic interstate accident in Platte County

On April 25th at approximately 9 pm, Herbert and Cynthia Humphrey of St. Joseph, MO, were involved in a fatal car accident on I-29. The accident occurred when the couple struck an 18-wheeler operated by Carl Doty, 71, of Missouri Valley, IA, attempting to make a U-turn on the highway. Herbert and Cynthia were rushed to St. Joseph Medical Center by Platte County Emergency Services. Cynthia Humphrey passed shortly after the accident. Herbert Humphrey remains in critical condition. Mr. Doty was unharmed.

The death of a person due to a traffic incident is never a light or easy issue to discuss, much  less live through. We at the law offices of Kevin J. Roach extend our deepest condolences to the Humphrey family.

The Legal Claims

Missouri offers a comprehensive system of personal injury laws meant to protect persons who are injured due to the negligence of others. Here, Mr. Humphrey would have a case for his own injuries, lost wages, pain and suffering, and medical bills. Mr. Humphrey would have further claims for property damage, and possibly emotional distress as well. The family of Cynthia Humphrey would also have a wrongful death claim that would allow them to receive compensation for their loss of her companionship, as well as for her own pain and suffering before her passing.
