Arvis Byrd killed in I-270 car wreck

On Friday, June 1, Arvis Byrd, 53, of Centreville, IL, was tragically killed in a traffic collision on Interstate 270 west of Florissant Avenue in St. Louis county. The accident began at approximately 11:30 pm when Ms. Byrd was stopped on the interstate due to another traffic incident further down the road. While stopped, her vehicle was struck along the driver’s side by Ronald Cotton, 66, of Granite City, IL. Ms. Arvis was transported to Christian Hospital where she was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter. Mr. Cotton suffered minor injuries and was taken to DePaul Hospital and later released.

A traffic accident can be a difficult experience, when one ends in a fatality it can be particularly traumatic for the friends and family of the deceased. We at the law offices of Kevin J. Roach wish extend our sincerest condolences to the family of Ms. Byrd.

The Legal Claims

Missouri offers a robust system of personal injury law meant to protect persons who have been injured or killed through the negligence of another. Here, Mr. Cotton was likely at fault and those effected would be entitled to payment for any lost wages, pain and suffering, damaged property, and medical bills incurred as a result of the accident. Further, the family of the deceased would be entitled to her claims as well as their own through the Missouri wrongful death regime.
