Franklin County, Illinois (January 8, 2018) – One driver was fatally injured following a two-vehicle crash in Franklin County on Saturday, according to a report from Illinois State Police.

The deadly collision took place at about 11:28 p.m. Saturday, January 6, on Interstate 57 South near mile marker 75.5.

According to Illinois State Police, a Volkswagen, driven by Charles Shy, 48, of Carbondale and a semi-trailer, driven by Saif Almuslmawi, 32 of Dearborn Heights, MI were both traveling in the right lane when the semi then started slowing down. The Volkswagen failed to stop thus slamming into the semi.

Police said Shy succumbed to injuries as a result of the crash.

No further details were immediately available in the crash.
