Fidelity, Missouri (December 30, 2017) – A collision involving two vehicles Friday morning Fidelity, Jasper County claimed a life of a 34-year-old Quincy, Illinois man, according to a release from Missouri State Police.

The fatal wreck took place at about 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29, on Interstate 44, 1.25 miles west of Fidelity in Jasper County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Lucas K. Morriss, of Quincy, Illinois, was driving a 2000 Toyota 4Runner westbound when he fell asleep and westbound 2013 Dodge Avenger, driven by Rosette E. Scover, 37, of Kansas City, Kansas.

After the impact, Morriss’ Toyota spun out, ran off the off the right side of the road, hit a sign, overturned, struck a tree and came to rest on its top.

Authorities said Morriss was declared deceased at the scene by a coroner and his body was transported to the Jasper County Coroner’s Office.

Morriss’ car had three child passengers, two of them, Cameron L. Morriss, 9, and Logan W. Morriss, 11, both of Coppers Cove, Texas, were taken by an ambulance by ambulance to Freeman Hospital in Joplin for treatment of moderate injuries. The third passenger, Alex Valentine, 13, of Quincy, was taken to Freeman Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Scover was not injured in the crash, a report said.

The patrol said all the four victims were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
