Clay County, Missouri (February 4, 2018) – A Liberty man was hospitalized after an early Sunday morning car collision on Interstate 35 in Clay County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

The accident took place on the southbound I-35 entrance ramp from Missouri 152 at around 4:45 a.m.

Troopers said a 2005 Dodge Durango driven by Maurice P. Cullum, 48, of Liberty, was merging onto Interstate 35 from Missouri 152 ramp when he was rear-ended by a southbound 2006 Kia, driven by Joseph A. Bears-Deleon, 27, also of Liberty.

The crash caused the Kia to travel off the right side of the roadway and to overturn.

Bears-Deleon sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Liberty Hospital. Troopers said he was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident.

Cullum was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
