Chicago, Illinois (January 28, 2018) – A collision involving eight vehicles Saturday afternoon in the Loop killed one person and left eleven others with injuries, according to Chicago Police.

The accident took place at around 4:20 p.m. Saturday, January 27, near the intersection of Congress Parkway and Wells Street.

The Chicago Police and Chicago Fire Media Affairs report stated that the pin-in collision involved eight vehicles.

Eleven people were injured in the collision; seven were in serious to critical condition. Four of the seven victims were taken to Stroger Hospital, while three others were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Police said that two other victims were transported to Rush University Medical Center in fair to serious condition, and three more were taken to Stroger in good to fair condition, fire media affairs said.

One person taken to Stroger was later declared dead, Illinois State Police said.

The fire medic reported that eleven other people declined treatment at the scene.

Congress was closed down during an investigation, and Southbound No. 36 Broadway buses were being redirected from State Street, Harrison Street and Financial Place due to street blockage, but northbound buses were not affected.
