Hi first name,
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and distracted driving is one of the leading causes of accidents in Missouri. Knowing how to avoid distractions can help protect you and your family on the road.
In 2025, Missouri began enforcement of the state's hands-free law; which prohibits the use of mobile devices while driving on Missouri roads. This includes typing, scrolling, holding, or supporting a device. Watching, recording, or broadcasting videos are off-limits as well.
Here are some ways you can reduce distractions when you are behind the wheel:
Before driving, enable your device's 'Do Not Disturb' feature, silence your phone, and/or store it out of sight and reach.
Set your navigation before you leave. Review the route before you hit the road and avoid making changes while driving.
Keep your eyes on the road. Avoid multitasking, such as eating or grooming, and reaching for other items while driving.
Stay alert while driving. This includes getting enough rest so that you can be focused on the road.
Have passengers take care of tasks when available. Passengers can provide navigation and respond to urgent messages while you are driving.
