Massac County, Illinois (January 12, 2018) – A woman and two juveniles were killed in a collision involving three vehicles Thursday morning in Massac County, Illinois State Police said.

The fatal incident took place at around 6:23 a.m. Thursday, January 11, on U.S. 45 south of Illinois Route 169 in Massac County.

According to Illinois State Police report, Rachel E. Killian, 23, of Marion, was operating a red 2011 Kia Soul north on U.S. 45 when she drove off the right side of the road. In an attempt to correct, Killian overcorrected and veered into the left lane colliding with a southbound black 2014 Chrysler 300 head-on which was then struck by a gray 2015 Chevrolet Traverse.

The driver of the Chrysler was Karla R. Reichert, 57, of Karnak and the Traverse, was driven by Cathy J. Ulen, 62, of Ullin, behind the Chrysler, police said.

Killian and her 1-year-old boy passenger were declared dead at the scene, and the 3-year-old girl in Killian’s car was taken Baptist Health Paducah where she was declared dead later.

Troopers said two other kids in Killian’s vehicle, a 3-year-old girl, and a 9-month-old boy suffered serious injuries and were both also transported to Baptist Health Paducah for treatment.

Reichert was transported to an out-of-state hospital with severe injuries, according to the report,

All lanes of U.S. 45 were closed for about three and a half hours during an investigation and clean-up operation.

An investigation into the deadly crash is still underway.’
