Nicholas Lawson and Orville Cooper killed in Livingston County car crash

On Thursday, August 30, two Missouri residents–Nicholas Lawson, 23, of Chillicothe, and Orville Cooper, 49, of Bosworth, were both killed in a multi-car accident on US-65, south of Chillicothe, in Livingston County.

The accident began at approximately 7:00 PM, when the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Mr. Lawson passed across the center line and into oncoming traffic where it struck the 1990 Lexus LS400, driven by Mr. Cooper, head on.

Both were declared deceased at the scene by the Livingston county coroner’s office. Mr. Lawson was not wearing his safety belt at the time, and authorities are investigating whether or not that fact may have played a role in his death. Authorities are also investigating whether or not low visibility may have contributed to the incident.

Both vehicles were totaled, and had to be towed from the scene.

It is always unfortunate when a traffic accident ends in the loss of a life. We at the law offices of Kevin J. Roach extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the parties involved.

Our law firm understands that no amount of monetary compensation will bring back your loved one, but we also strongly believe that people must be held accountable for their actions.  Additionally, the money recovered from a Illinois wrongful death lawsuit can assist with any outstanding medical expenses, funeral costs, as well as income replacement if the deceased was the primary income earner.

There are also statutes of limitations within each state that determine how much time you have to file the wrongful death claim. In Missouri, a wrongful death claim can be filed anytime up to three years after the death of the family member.
