Matthew Hug and Joyce Myers injured in accident involving a dump truck in Jasper county

On Saturday, September 15, 37-year old Matthew Hug and 22-year old Joyce Myers, both residents of Baxter Springs, KS, were injured in a car accident involving a dump truck on MO-52 in Morgan county.

The accident occurred at approximately 11 AM when Thomas Mann, 51, of Carl Junction, MO, struck the vehicle Mr. Hug and Ms. Myers were traveling in from behind as they sat waiting to execute a turn. The impact then forced Mr. Hug’s vehicle from the roadway, before it overturned on the shoulder.

Mr. Hug’s Honda civic was totaled in the incident. Mr. Mann’s 2016 Mack Dump Truck sustained only minor damage.

According to the official crash report Ms. Myers  suffered moderate injury and had to be transported to Freeman West Hospital via the Jasper county ambulance service for further observation and treatment. Mr. Hug suffered minor injury and also had to be transported by EMS to Freeman West as a precautionary measure. Investigators believe both parties were wearing their safety belts at the time of the incident.

Mr. Mann was unhurt, and was released at the scene.
