Hebron, Illinois (January 15, 2018) – A collision involving two vehicles Sunday afternoon in Hebron claimed lives of two drivers and injured three others, according to a news release from a McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputy.

The deadly collision happened at around 4:20 p.m. Sunday, on the 7400 block of Route 47 in Hebron between O’Brien and Thayer roads in McHenry County.

According to authorities, a 29-year-old woman from Hebron was driving a 2009 Kia Rio north when for undetermined reasons, crossed into the southbound lane of traffic and crashed into a 2005 Chevy Impala driven by a 42-year-old Marengo man and had had airbags deployed.

The two drivers died of their injuries following the collision.

Three other passengers in the Chevy Impala, a 39-year-old woman, a 12-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl, all from Marengo suffered injuries in the crash. The 39- and 12-year-old were transported to Centegra Hospital in McHenry in critical condition then transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge while the 9-year-old was taken to Centegra Hospital in Huntley in stable condition.

The identities of the victims were not immediately provided.

The female driver and the 39-old woman, and the 42-year-old driver were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The 12-year-old and the 9-year-old were not wearing a safety device, according to sheriff’s office.

Authorities said Route 47 from Vanderkarr Road to Thayer Road in Hebron was shut down for several hours due to the incident.
