New Lenox, Illinois (January 18, 2018) – A 31-year-old man was killed, and two others hospitalized following a rear-end collision early Thursday morning in New Lenox, Illinois State Police said.

The deadly accident happened at around 4 a.m. Thursday, January 18, in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 I-80 east at the Interstate 355 interchange near the Veterans Memorial Tollway in New Lenox.

According to Illinois State Police, the man was stopped on I-80 when another vehicle rear-ended his car ejecting the man from the car.

Two other people were taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

Officials said the two vehicles sustained significant front-end damage

Further details regarding the crash were not immediately provided.

Police said the incident led to the closure of several lanes on I-80 during an investigation.
