Man, 20, Killed, 1 Injured in 2-Car Crash on Plank Road in Limestone Township in Peoria
Peoria, Illinois (January 27, 2018) — A collision involving two vehicles Friday morning in Limestone Township, Peoria claimed a life of a 20-year-old male driver, according to a Peoria County Coroner.
The deadly collision took place at around 7:45 a.m. Friday, January 26, on Plank Road just west of Cameron Lane in Limestone Township.
The coroner reported that a maroon vehicle was driven eastbound by the 20-year-old driver when it apparently skidded on the slick pavement and traveled sideways and was broadsided by a red pickup truck driven westbound.
The 20-year-old man was declared deceased at the incident scene while the pickup driver was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the coroner said.
Both vehicles had one occupant, as per the report.
An autopsy to determine the official cause of the man’s death was scheduled late Friday night.
The frost on the road and road conditions were believed to be a contributing factor in the crash, according to an official.
Both motorists were reportedly wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash
The identity of the victims was not immediately available.
Plank Road between Farmington Road and Cameron Lane remained closed during an investigation and a clean-up operation.
