Latoya Cole Injured in I-80 Two-Vehicle Crash that Killed Boy and Dog in Geneseo

Geneseo, Illinois (December 27, 2017) – A two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 80 near Geneseo killed a 12-year-old boy and left a woman hospitalized on Christmas Eve, according to Illinois State Police.

The accident took place on I-80 at Mile Marker 19, near the Geneseo exit ramp at about 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 24.

Police said 31-year-old Latoya Cole of Chicago was driving a Ford Escape when she lost control on the overpass and her vehicle begun to spin.  A semi-trailer, driven by Edward Hicks III, 59, of Guadalupe, Texas, crashed into the Ford Escape.

A 12-year-old boy traveling in Cole’s Ford was pronounced dead at the scene. A dog also traveling in the Ford died at the scene.

Cole was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries.

Hicks III was unhurt.

It’s unclear whether charges have been filed.
