Jason Wages and Melissa Barber Seriously Injured in St. Clair Mukti-Vehicle Crash on I-44
Jason Wages and Melissa Barber Airlifted after Multi-Vehicle Collision on Interstate 44 near St. Clair
St. Clair, Missouri (December 19, 2017) – Two people who were seriously injured in a five-car pileup Monday night near St. Clair has been identified.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victims as Jason M. Wages, 39, and Melissa Barber, 40, both from of Springfield, MO.
The crash took place at approximately 6 p.m. Monday, December 18 on the eastbound Interstate 44 near mile marker 244.
Police officers stated that a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Bard L. Hagy, struck the back of a 2000 Ford Mustang, driven by Wages. The impact caused the Mustang to go through the cable barriers in the median.
The Mustang then began driving westbound in eastbound lanes and struck a 2013 Dodge Avenger, driven by Barber, and a 2014 Kenworth Conventional, driven by Wade R. Edwards. Debris from the Mustang struck the front of a 2016 Freightliner Conventional, operated by Jaspreet Singh, 25, of Surry, British Columbia.
Both Barber and Wages suffered serious injuries in the crash. Wages was flown by Arch helicopter to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Barber was also flown to Mercy Hospital St. Louis.
I-44 was closed down until after 9 p.m. when it was reopened.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
