St. Clair, Missouri (December 21, 2017) – According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, two Springfield residents suffered serious injuries in a five-vehicle collision Monday night in St. Clair.

The two victims were identified by the MHP as Jason M. Wages, 39, of Springfield, and Melissa Barber, 40, also of Springfield.

The incident happened at around 6 p.m. Monday, December 18 on Interstate 44 near mile marker 244.

Police officers said that a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Brad L. Hagy, 28, of Owensville, was headed west on I-44 when it crashed into the rear of Wages’ 2000 Ford Mustang.  The impact of the crash caused Wages’ car to go off the left side of the road and through the median cable barriers before traveling west in the eastbound lane and hitting Barber’s 2013 Dodge Avenger and a 2014 Kenworth Conventional driven by Wade R. Edwards, 60, of Depauw, Indiana. A 2016 Freightliner Conventional driven by Jaspreet Singh, 25, of Surry, British Columbia, was struck in the front by debris from Wages’ vehicle.

Wages and Barber were airlifted to Mercy Hospital St. Louis with serious injuries.

Wages was the only driver not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

A portion of I-44 was closed down for about three hours during the investigation.
