James Tierney killed, Daniel and Tanya Woodgate injured, in Phelps County motorcycle crash

On Monday, September 24, 57-year old James Tierney of Queanbeyan, Australia, was killed in an accident on highway KK, 5 miles east of St. James in Phelps County. Daniel, 44, and Tanya, 45, Woodgate were both also seriously injured in the same incident.

The accident began at approximately 11:20 AM, when Raul Espinoza, 51, of St. James, MO, failed to yield causing Mr. Tierney’s motorcycle to come into contact with his 2007 Nissan Frontier. Mr. Tierney then struck a nearby Jeep Wrangler, driven by Mr. Gregor Gterek of Slovenia, before exiting the road way entirely. Daniel and Tanya Woodgate, both residents of New South Wales, Australia, were riding behind Mr. Tierney on a motorcycle of their own. Upon encountering the accident, the Woodgates left the road in an attempt to avoid joining the collision.

Tragically, Mr. Tierney was pronounced deceased by medical staff at Mercy Hospital. Both Woodgates suffered serious, life threatening, injury and had to be rushed via EMS to area hospitals. They are predicted to recover.

It is always unfortunate when a traffic accident ends in the loss of a life. We at the law offices of Kevin J. Roach extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the parties involved.
