Dayna Beckner and Steven Pendergraft Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on Gateway Drive in Newton County

Newton County, Missouri (March 6, 2018) – Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle collision on Saturday afternoon in Newton County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash took place at around 3:45 p.m. Saturday, March 3, on Gateway Drive approximately 4 miles south of Joplin.

Troopers said James O. Hurst, 27, of Joplin was driving a 1999 Ford Expedition northbound on Gateway Drive when she drifted sideways in an attempt to avoid a stopped vehicle in front.

The Ford ran off the right shoulder of the roadway, and then Hurst overcorrected and cut back across the roadway into the southbound lane, where he collided with a 2001 Ford ZX2, driven by Steven L. Pendergraft, 28, of Joplin.

Pendergraft and his passenger, Dayna N. Beckner, 29, also of Joplin, were both taken to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin with moderate injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

Both vehicles were towed with extensive damage.
