Darwin Mejia Injured in 2-Car Crash on I-29 in Holt County

Holt County, Missouri (January 13, 2018) – A 22-year-old Independence man was taken to a hospital following a car collision on Interstate 29 in Holt County, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on I-29 at Mile Marker 87, about three miles north of Mound City.

A 2006 Ford F350 traveling southbound on I-29 began to fishtail and slid into the median. The driver of a 2001 Ford F250 traveling behind the F350 attempted to brake and the vehicle also began to slide into the median and struck the F350.

The crash caused the F350 to overturn and came to a rest on its roof in the median. The F250 stopped in the median on its wheels.

Darwin A. Mejia, 22, of Independence was traveling in the Ford F250 and was hospitalized at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph with moderate injuries.

The driver of the Ford F250, Juan R. Orellana, 28, of Kansas City and the driver of the second vehicle, Edbin I. Orellana, also of Kansas City, were unhurt in the crash.

Mejia was the only one without a seatbelt on at the time of the accident.
