Greene County, Missouri (February 21, 2018) – Several people were taken to hospital after a driver failed to stop at a red light and caused a crash on Tuesday night in Greene County, according to state troopers.

The crash happened at around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, at the intersection of Missouri 13 and Route O, approximately 4 miles north of Springfield.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, Thomas R. Woods, 31, of Elkland ran a red light at the intersection and crashed his 1995 Geo Prism into a 2007 Toyota RAV4 that was being driven by Kathryn A. Stewart, 33, of Willard.

The impact caused the Toyota to strike a sign and a light post.

Shortly after the crash, as a passenger in the Prism was assisting other passengers to get out of the vehicle, a 2010 Pontiac G6 driven by Seth A. Raney, 25, of Willard, slammed into the Prism and struck the passenger.

The passenger who was hit was identified as Danny R. Hawthorne, 38, of St. Joseph.

Raney, Hawthorne and another passenger in the Prism, Crystal A. Ricks, 22, of Cranes, were all rushed to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries.

Woods suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to Mercy Hospital.

Stewart and her passengers, Samuel B. Stewart, 4, and Bailey G. Stewart, 1, both of Willard, were all transported to Mercy Hospital with minor injuries.

The three vehicles were towed from the scene with total damage.
