Cody Dowd Killed and 4 Hurt in Fatal St. Louis Multi-Vehicle Collision on I-55
Cody Dowd, 18, Killed, 4 Injured in Three-Car Crash on Interstate 55 in St. Louis
St. Louis, Missouri (December 12, 2017) – According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, a teen was killed and four others were injured in a three-car collision Saturday night in St. Louis, Jefferson County.
The MHP identified the teen as 18-year-old Cody Dowd from Pevely.
The deadly incident happened at around 10:15 p.m. Saturday, December 9, on Interstate 55.
Troopers said Dowd got out of his Nissan Altima after colliding with a Kia Optima in the southbound lanes of I-55. The Altima was stopped facing sideways in one lane of the highway while the Optima was on the left shoulder. A passing Toyota Camry then struck the Altima. The impact of the crash caused the Altima to spin around, and Dowd was crushed between his car and the Optima.
Dowd was rushed to St. Anthony’s Medical Center, where he perished shortly later.
The Optima driver suffered serious injuries in the crash. Three occupants of the Camry also sustained injuries in the incident.
An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
