Alma Perez Killed, 3-Year-Old Child Seriously Hurt in U.S. 34 Crash in Warren County

Warren County, Illinois (December 27, 2017) – A 22-year-old mother was killed in a vehicle collision that left her 3-year-old hospitalized with serious injuries on Sunday afternoon in Warren County.

The two-vehicle crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday, December 24 on U.S. 34 near Monmouth.

According to Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Alma E. Perez, 22, of Wapello, was driving westbound on U.S. 34 when she swerved into the eastbound lane and collided with a vehicle driven by Yvonne Villarreal, 44, of Knoxville.

Perez sustained major injuries and was rushed to a Burlington hospital, alongside her 3-year-old.

They were later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where Perez was pronounced deceased. The child was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Villarreal also sustained injuries and was taken to a Peoria hospital.

According to a preliminary investigation, speed may have been a factor in the crash.
