New Lenox, Illinois (January 18, 2018) – A 31-year-old man who was killed following a two-car collision in New Lenox Thursday morning has been identified as Aaron Scofield, Illinois State Police said.

The fatal incident took place at around 4 a.m. Thursday, January 18, on Interstate on I-80 just east of I-355 in southwest suburban New Lenox.

According to a preliminary investigation report, a 2005 Toyota 4Runner, driven by a 43-year-old man, was traveling east on I-80 when it struck the front driver’s side of a 2011 Kia Soul which had been pulled over in the center lane for an undetermined reason. The Kia was being driven by Aaron Scofield, 31, of Chicago.

The impact of the crash ejected Scofield from his car, the report said.

Scofield was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where he succumbed to injuries around 4:46 a.m., according to Will County Coroner’s Office.

An autopsy to determine the cause of the death of Scofield was scheduled for Thursday, the Coroners said.

The driver of the Toyota was also hospitalized in an unspecified condition.

The eastbound I-80 remained shut for several hours and reportedly reopened around 8:15 a.m.

An investigation into the deadly collision is still ongoing.
