3 Hurt in Joliet Five-Car Accident at Larkin Avenue and Black Road
Joliet, Illinois (January 18, 2018) – Three drivers were hospitalized following a collision with a hit-and-run driver Wednesday afternoon in Joliet, According to a Joliet Deputy Police.
The accident happened at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, at the intersection of Larkin Avenue and Black Road in Joliet.
According to the deputy, the collision involved five vehicles. The driver of a Nissan Murano blew a red light while operating the car in the wrong lane at the intersection and crashed into a white Toyota Avalon driven by a 56-year-old man.
The Murano continued traveling and hit a Black Dodge Nitro driven by a 31-year-old woman. The impact caused the Nitro to spin around and clipped a Lincoln driven by a 42-year-old woman.
Murano proceeded and struck a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 16-year-old girl.
According to the deputy report, the driver of the Avalon suffered life-threatening injuries including bleeding on the brain and was transported to Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center for treatment. The driver of the Nitro was also hospitalized with an injury to the leg.
The 16-year-old declined treatment but was later taken to a hospital by her parents, the deputy said.
The driver of the Murano fled the accident scene.
No other injuries were reported in the crash.
The report said intersection at Larkin Avenue and Black Road remained shut for about 5 hours and had since reopened.
