Godfrey, Illinois (January 18, 2018) – A wrong-way collision involving an alleged drunk driver in Godfrey Wednesday night claimed left one dead and two others with injuries, as per Illinois State Police.

The accident took place at about 10 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, on Route 255 just south of Humbert Road in Godfrey.

According to Illinois State Police officials, the collision involved three cars.

One person was killed in the crash, officials said.

According to the Illinois State Police Department, the suspected intoxicated, wrong-way driver sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash, and another motorist was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Further details regarding the identity of the victims and manner of the wreck were not immediately provided.

The state police reported that the crash prompted closure of northbound lanes of Route 255 for at least four hours.
